How strong is the protection?
Your PDF is locked with 256-bit AES, the strongest encryption PDF readers support. Use a long password that is hard to guess.
What if I forget the password?
Nobody can recover it, including us. Keep a copy of the unprotected file, or store the password somewhere safe.
